angelsAngel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States. The program began in 1994 with 34 families in Monroe, Georgia (between Atlanta and Athens), and has grown to serve thousands of families every month across 17 states.

Angel Food's groceries are sold in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $26 per unit. Each month's menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $50. The food is all the same high quality one would purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe. Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken and pork. Many participants in this bonus program appreciate the expanded choices. Additionally, there is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can purchase, and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere.

To some, at Living Word, this ministry will mean receiving food at a reduced cost. There are no income guidelines to be met. It is available to all members and non-members. Orders will be taken in the narthex after church services as the order forms for the current month become available. Usually the two Sundays following a distribution date. In the future, we hope to utilize the internet to allow for 24/7 ordering.

Others will know this ministry as a one-time-a-month volunteer service. It will take many people to prepare the food boxes for distribution. Included below is a list of people we need to help. If you would like to help, please contact a representative in the narthex.

For each fifty boxes that are purchased through our church, Angel Food will give us one extra box. This box and any others that are donated will be distributed to people in need. In this way we hope to reach outside our congregation. If you know of someone in need - a widow, a single parent, people living on a limited income, maybe you know someone who is sick or unemployed, please let us know. Angel Food is a way to reach these people where they live, not just with food, but with God's love.
