    ADOPT A HIGHWAY

We clean up FM 1093, west of Grand Parkway on Saturdays, 4 times a year. We serve the community by beautifying the roadside and Living Word's name is posted on a sign along that stretch of road. We shepherd one another through Christian fellowship of working and eating together.

Description: Meet at the church for instructions, safety vests & bags, then ride to the site in the church van. Teams of two pick up litter for about 1 ½ hours. Afterwards we go to a nearby café for lunch or breakfast depending on the season. Participants must be physically able to do repetitive bending and walking for ½ mile. Children under 13 should be accompanied by an adult. This is an excellent family activity that parents can use to instill pride and responsibility for nature in their children. Many youngsters have participated in order to earn community service hours. Members of Boy Scout Troop #424 are partners in this ministry.

Testimonial: I have participated in the Texas Highway Department Adopt-A-Highway program for about 20 years. It gives me a good feeling when I see the large pile of trash we have removed from our public highways. At the meal afterwards, everyone has fun talking about the weird stuff found on the roadside!

Jack Teitsma, Psy.D., Director of Clinical Services for the Carole & Ronald Krist Samaritan Center, has an office located in our church offices.  The Krist Samaritan Center has several locations throughout Houston, and Dr. Teitsma offers counseling services at our location once a week.  The Samaritan Center for Counseling and Education is a ministry expressing the healing love of God.  Counselee’s religious perspectives are respected and may be used as a therapeutic resource, and the counselors do not impose their personal religious beliefs on others.  To learn more or to schedule and appointment, call 281.480.7554 or visit www.samaritanctr.org.

The Samaritan Center is a separate organization that uses an office at our location to better serve the needs of those in and around the Katy area.  You do not have to be a member of Living Word to receive counseling from Dr. Teitsma.
